If you want flexible remote work that pays reliably and doesn't require you to pitch clients or chase invoices, contract customer support roles can be a solid option. ShyftOff, a Florida-based platform, is currently looking for U.S.-based independent contractors to take inbound calls for a financial services client — specifically helping cardholders with everyday banking needs.

The work itself is straightforward: people call in to activate cards, report lost or stolen ones, check balances, sort out payments, or flag suspicious charges. You verify identities, follow security protocols, and help callers resolve issues quickly. It's not glamorous, but it's meaningful — these are often time-sensitive situations for the people on the other end of the line.

Pay runs between $15 and $17 per hour, with performance incentives on top. There's also a $300 certification bonus once you log 200 productive hours, and an extra $50 if you hit that certification milestone within six weeks. The monthly work pool reportedly exceeds 20,000 hours, so availability shouldn't be a bottleneck.

The schedule is entirely self-directed — coverage runs 24/7, so you pick the shifts that fit your life. This is a 1099 contractor arrangement, meaning no benefits or employer taxes withheld, but also no fixed schedule imposed on you. For nomads with stable U.S. residency or a reliable stateside setup, it's worth a look.
